Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power Getting Up”

I often think about my grandparents. My grandpa is 95 and his wife is 85 (she is the second wife and probably the reason for his longevity 😍). Both of them are healthy, happy and so so soo in love. I’d dare say that my grandpa became even softer and sweeter in age. He calls her “mon amour, ma chérie” and she answers with “mon petit chou”. But this is not the point, so let me get back on track.
I often think about them and their physical ability. What if one of them falls? Will they be able to get off the floor?
It has been accepted by many that, once we age, the physical ability diminishes, we get less flexible and mobile. But it is also known that under anesthesia the body is supple and extremely bendy. So what is it that is stiff? The body or the mind that is asleep and not influencing the body? Well, you can already guess (or maybe you know me well enough) to sense my point of view. CORRECT: the mind is stiff.
The mind can be kept flexible though, we just have to be willing. Like we have to be willing to exercise the body. Therefore, it is really important that you practice getting up. Not just getting up and out of bed in the morning, but literally getting up off the floor.
Many if not most of us, spend daily time on the couch. Change that and sit on the floor. Lie on your back, roll on the stomach and get up (stand up, 🎶). Do it a few times. Apart from strengthening the body, you create a neural pathway that will remember this motion.
It might seem like a silly thing to do but you will think of me in a few years. There will be two options:
Ahhhhh, Simi was right. I am so grateful that I believed her.
Ahhhhh, Simi was right. I wish I had believed her.
The choice is yours. The important thing is that I am right…. 😏😉 Joooooking.
My Yoga teacher used to say “Practice your Yoga and all is coming”. Getting up off the floor might not be a gracious movement like an Asana but the discipline, the change in routine, the determination, the strength you are building go hand in hand with various aspects of Yogic philosophy.
So, will you sit on the floor tonight?
