Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power of Being Human"

Where did your imagination take you when you were little? Did you want to be a superhero? And if so, what superpower did you choose? I am willing to bet it was something dramatic, magical, heroic, and probably involved saving the world before dinner. As kids, we didn’t just dream about powers, we embodied them.

If you wanted to fly, you leaped from bed to bed with the confidence of a tiny stunt double. Or, if you were like my best friend’s brothers, you jumped off the balcony with a bedsheet cape, fully trusting the laws of physics to cooperate. Thankfully, a large bush was waiting below to soften both the landing and the life lesson.

If invisibility was your thing, you hid behind the curtain, convinced nobody could see your sneaker sticking out. And even when someone clearly spotted you, you kept believing you had vanished. That is the beauty of a child’s mind. No doubts, no hesitation, just pure belief.

So here comes the big question: what do you think your superpower is now? You might not love the answer, so read on only if you are ready… Your power is that you are human.

 Yes, really.

You have choices. You open your eyes every morning and get to decide whether to repeat yesterday’s thoughts or create new ones. You have the ability to heal yourself, even though we have mostly forgotten how. You can design and redesign your reality. You can change your mind, your attitude. You can say yes, or no, or “actually, let me rethink this.” And that, my friend is extraordinary.

It sounds simple but the power of choice is one of the greatest privileges of being human.

I want a salad… actually no, chocolate ice cream sounds better.

I want to keep scrolling… or wait, I think I will read instead.

I want to go out… actually, scratch that, I want to stay home in my cocoon.

This is freedom. Tiny, everyday freedom. And it is yours because you are human.

Of course, choices come with responsibility. That is the part we dislike. We want freedom without consequences, chocolate without sugar, growth without discomfort. But being human means you get both the beautiful and the complicated. You get to make mistakes, and you also get the chance to fix them, to learn from them. You get to fall out of alignment, and you get to return. Again and again.

And maybe that is the real superpower. Not flying, not invisibility, not laser vision. But the ability to choose a fresh start every day, hour, minute or second even. The ability to choose who you become. The ability to look at your life and say, “I can do this differently.”

So next time you wonder whether you have any magic left, remember the truth: You are human.

But now, just for fun: what would your superpower be if you had to choose one?
