Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power of being OK"

Updated: Aug 11

"Are you ok?" How many of you really stop to think about how you’re actually feeling when someone asks that?  How do you know if you are ok?  And what does it even mean to be ok?

I had a phase where I was listening to Michael Singer daily and I learned something powerful: Being ok means accepting and not reacting to anything that happens.  It means surfing each wave as it comes without labeling it. It means letting go of the belief that the world must unfold according to your expectations.

The world is billions of years old. If you’re lucky, you get 80 to 90 years in this body. Do you really think the universe will bend and twist just to fit your plan? You are a speck of dust on a grain of sand. It’s time to start being ok, to start seeing things for what they truly are: experiences, lessons, growth.

“Everything will be ok when you are ok with everything.” – Michael Singer

Let go of the idea that things are either good or bad. Your (and yes, my) understanding is incredibly limited. Our reality is a projection of our past experiences. So, ask yourself: Who has more experience, you, or the universe?

What if, instead of resisting and reacting to what the universe brings, you simply observe? Maybe even get curious about it.  Silly example: you get a sunburn. Yes, it stings. Yes, you’ll peel. No, maybe you won’t look your cutest for a few days (or maybe you will?!). But have you paused to realize that the sun is a literal star? You live so close to a star that it burned you. You got a starburn.

And what if that starburn kept you from going out on Friday night, where you would have lost your bag, including your passport, which you need for the visa extension that cost you a small fortune... and now you’d have to start all over again? Do you see where I’m going with this?

We often don’t understand the full purpose of what happens. But we can start practicing a little equanimity—meeting life with a steady heart and mind.

It’s not easy. It’s a daily practice. But what have you got to lose?

Being ok is a powerful place to be. And who knows... you might even start to enjoy it.

Disclaimer: everything I wrote in this article is inspired by Michael Singer and he is the mind behind it.
