Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power of Technology"

Technology? What does that have to do with Yoga? Fair question. Technology itself has nothing to do with Yoga. It is not like your laptop suddenly decides to hold a Warrior II, or your phone whispers Om every time you unlock it. (Although, admit it, you would either be delighted or terrified if it did.) But thanks to technology, Yoga has never been more accessible.

One of my teachers used to say, “In today’s era of technology, ignorance is a choice.” And he was right. We live in a world where the entire knowledge of humanity sits in our pocket, yet we still use it to argue with strangers about pineapple on pizza. The truth is, limitless access to information has made us both smarter and lazier. We can Google the meaning of life in seconds, but we still pretend we do not have time for a 10-minute stretch.

Back to Yoga. The excuse “I don’t have time for Yoga because I have to drive here and there” just does not fly anymore. You do not need to leave your house. You do not even need to leave your pajamas. There are thousands of online Yoga classes, live or recorded, just waiting for you.

Want to stretch gently while still tangled in your bedsheets? There is a class for that. Want a guided meditation while hiding under your blanket pretending it is a cave in the Himalayas? Easy. Want a power flow that makes you sweat, regret all your choices, and then feel like a superhero afterward? Absolutely there. Want to join a live class where the teacher sees you “accidentally” taking a 10-minute Child’s Pose? Also possible, although you might get called out gently.

This is the gift of our era. Yoga is literally in your pocket. It travels with you every time you carry your phone or open your laptop. The question is not if Yoga is available. The real question is whether you choose it, or whether you scroll TikTok until you forget why you picked up your phone in the first place.

And here is the thing: just like technology, Yoga can uplift you or drain you. Five hours of online shopping will not make you happy, but five minutes of breathing will change your entire nervous system. The choice is yours.

So the next time you say, “I don’t have time,” check your screen time first. If you had time to watch people dance in dinosaur costumes, you had time for a Sun Salutation. The same device you use to binge a series can also open the door to clarity, strength, and calm.

Technology might not be Yoga, but it is the bridge. And right now, that bridge can take you straight to your mat, no excuses required.
