Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power of Choices"

Would you rather crank out a hundred burpees or a hundred sit-ups? Would you rather munch three carrots or confront an entire forest of spinach at dinner? And what sounds harder: holding a Plank for two minutes or making it through a family gathering without sighing so loudly that someone asks if you are okay?

Life is essentially an endless tasting menu of decisions, and half the time it feels like the chef misunderstood your order. But here is the twist that nobody likes to admit: you always have a choice. The real question is whether you are going to use that choice wisely or slip into the leading role of your own melodramatic telenovela.

For a long stretch of my life, I was the reigning monarch of unnecessary tragedy. Picture dim lighting, dramatic shadows, and a slow, emotional soundtrack. Why does everything always happen to me? Why do I get stuck with the worst options? Shocking revelation: it wasn’t destiny. It was the simple truth that I kept forgetting my reactions were choices too. Turns out, the universe wasn’t plotting against me. I was just making questionable decisions with great enthusiasm.

But what actually qualifies as a “good” choice? Is it the instant-gratification kind, like scrolling through social media instead of unrolling your Yoga mat? Or is it the tougher one, like staying in Chair Pose while your legs send smoke signals, only to feel grounded and strangely victorious afterward? Deep down, we both know which option ends up being worth it.

This is where Asana Yoga becomes more than movement. It becomes a gentle teacher disguised as your own reflection. Every time you arrive on the mat, you face a tiny crossroads. Do you open your stance a bit more in Warrior II, or do you wilt dramatically as if your energy has been stolen by unseen forces? Do you breathe through the discomfort, or do you let your mind escape to grocery lists, emails, or that fantasy where you spontaneously relocate to a beach hut in Bali? Those small choices are training. Not just for your muscles but for the way you navigate everything outside the mat. Yoga reminds you, quietly and consistently, that discomfort is not an enemy. Sometimes it is simply an invitation to grow.

And here is the delicious irony: refusing to choose is still a choice. Skipping practice, postponing chores, promising yourself that Monday you will magically be more motivated, these are all choices that keep you circling the same worn-out path. Choosing nothing still shapes your life, just in a way that requires less courage and creates more stagnation.

So the next time you stand at one of life’s many tiny crossroads, whether it involves burpees, vegetables, or the gravitational pull of your sofa, pause for a moment and breathe. Let the absurdity of human decision-making amuse you. Shift from dramatic to curious. Because every little decision, even the ones that seem silly or insignificant, is carving out who you are becoming, both on the Yoga mat and in the wonderfully chaotic improv act known as your life.
