Not a super flexy slender Yoga chick talks "the Power of Dancing”

Some of you might know it: I love dancing. There are videos of me as a toddler shaking it to "Lambada" (no, I will not share them 😅). Dancing is fun, is often social and makes people happy.

What I did not know for a long time is that dancing is also incredibly healing both physically and mentally. Every time you move your body, you set things in motion. That is why it feels so good to get off the couch and take a walk or a run. Energy needs to move. If it gets stuck in the body, that is when tension builds up and moods turn… well, less than fabulous.

Dancing frees that trapped energy. It shakes off emotional dust, wiggles stress out of your shoulders, and reminds your nervous system that joy is available right now. Your hormones celebrate too. Endorphins jump in with a happy dance of their own, serotonin rises to brighten your mood, and dopamine rewards you for choosing fun over doom scrolling. All this while cortisol, the stress hormone, slowly steps aside.

Now you might be thinking: what does dancing have to do with Yoga? Actually, a lot. Yoga teaches us that the body is energy in motion. Prana flows where movement and breath flow. When you dance, you do not worry about alignment or looking graceful. You just move, you breathe, and you allow life to express itself through your body. That is Yoga in its purest form.

There is something magical about putting on your favorite song and letting your hips lead the way. Suddenly, you are not thinking anymore, you are feeling. You are fully present. Your mind takes a break while your inner child takes the stage.

And the best part? You do not need a dance floor, choreography, or approval from anyone. Your living room becomes the hottest club in town. Your kitchen becomes a salsa bar. Your shower becomes a Beyoncé concert.

So let yourself dance. Not because you are a professional. Not because you need a workout. But because your body was made to move, and your soul was made to celebrate.

Dancing is joy in motion. It is freedom wearing shoes (or sometimes no shoes at all). It is a reminder that life is not only about surviving. It is also about grooving.

Put on a song now and start shaking it (whatever IT is). Smile at the ridiculousness of it. That is the power of dancing.
